Switch 2 Rumored to Have Magnetic Suction Based on Claims From Third-Party Controller Manufacturer
Rumors surrounding Nintendo’s highly anticipated successor to the Switch are gaining traction, with reports suggesting that the console, often referred to as the “Switch 2,” will feature magnetic Joy-Con controllers and a range of other exciting new features. While Nintendo has yet to officially unveil the console or confirm the details, Spanish outlet Vandal and third-party Switch accessory manufacturer Mobapad have provided insights into the potential design.
According to the rumors, the Switch 2 will move away from the railed lock method used in the current Switch and its Joy-Cons. Instead, it will adopt larger electromagnetic suction controllers, allowing for seamless attachment and detachment. Additionally, the new controllers are rumored to feature metal SL and SR buttons, as well as an additional button on the side of each controller. Despite these changes, the controllers will still retain the popular HD rumble feature.
One of the most intriguing aspects of this rumor is the claim that the Switch 2 will maintain backward compatibility with existing Joy-Cons and Pro-Controllers, as well as physical and digital Switch games. This would provide players with the convenience of using their current accessories and game library on the new console. However, it remains uncertain how the old Joy-Cons would pair with the magnetic-based system.
Mobapad also suggests that the Switch 2 will continue to support USB-C connectivity, with minor changes to the appearance of the dock. The dock is said to offer 4K resolution, and the rumored adjustable “damping bracket on the back” could potentially refer to improvements in the console’s kickstand. The device itself is rumored to feature an eight-inch display with support for 1080p resolution.
While reports indicate that Nintendo is aiming for a 2024 launch for the Switch 2, a Nikkei report from February suggested a potential delay until March 2025 to combat scalpers. As always, it is important to take these rumors with a grain of salt until Nintendo provides official confirmation.
