Kerbal Space Program 2, the highly anticipated space simulation game, is facing a wave of negative reviews after the news broke that its developer, Intercept Games, is being shut down by Take-Two Interactive. Players have taken to the official Steam listing for the game, leaving mostly negative reviews and expressing their frustration and disappointment with the closure of the studio.
Upon examining the recent reviews, it becomes apparent that many players are upset about Take-Two’s decision to shut down Intercept Games. They voice their disappointment and warn others not to purchase the game, as it was released in Early Access last year and may never see a final release. Some reviewers lament the lack of progress in the game’s development and express concerns that the burden will fall on modders to carry the project forward.
In response to the review-bombing, a Take-Two spokesperson reiterated that Private Division, the publisher of Kerbal Space Program 2, is still working on the game and provided no further comment on the matter. However, the negative reviews continue to pour in, reflecting the frustration of players who were eagerly anticipating the game’s full release.
The review-bombing comes shortly after Take-Two filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notice in Washington State, announcing the closure of a Seattle office and the layoff of 70 employees. It was later confirmed that Intercept Games and Roll7, the studio behind Rollerdome and OlliOlli World, would be shut down as part of Take-Two’s broader plan to reduce staff across its studios.
These studio closures and layoffs are part of Take-Two’s cost reduction plan, despite CEO Strauss Zelnick’s previous statement that the company had no plans for layoffs. Last month, Take-Two announced layoffs affecting approximately 5% of its workforce and the cancellation of multiple projects.
The negative reviews for Kerbal Space Program 2 reflect the disappointment and frustration of players towards Take-Two’s decision to shut down Intercept Games. As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how the game’s development will progress and if the concerns of players will be addressed.
