Fallout 4 PS Plus Owners Currently Cannot Get the Next-Gen Update for Free
Reports have emerged indicating that PlayStation Plus subscribers who have Fallout 4 may not be able to download the next-gen update for free. Unlike those who own the game outright, PS Plus subscribers seem to be required to purchase the next-gen update separately. It remains unclear whether this is an intentional decision or a bug. IGN has reached out to Bethesda for comment on the matter.
In contrast, Xbox Game Pass subscribers have access to the native Xbox Series X and S version of Fallout 4 as part of their subscription. This availability is likely due to the fact that Fallout developer Bethesda, along with its parent company ZeniMax, is now owned by Microsoft, the maker of Xbox.
While PS Plus subscribers will still receive a significant update for the PlayStation 4 version of Fallout 4 (which also includes new content and bug fixes), there appears to be no way for them to access the native PS5 version without purchasing it separately at the time of this article’s publication. Bethesda has addressed the confusion on their Discord server, with a representative stating, “PS5 Upgrade should be available for you if you OWN Fallout 4 on the PSN account. Still looking into this for the PS+ users!”
Many PS Plus subscribers have expressed disappointment and frustration with the situation, criticizing Bethesda for not addressing this issue prior to the highly anticipated launch of the Fallout 4 next-gen update. Players have taken to social media to voice their concerns, sharing screenshots of the store prompting them to purchase the PS5 version of the game despite already owning it through PS Plus.
The next-gen update for Fallout 4 includes native applications for the consoles, Performance mode and Quality mode settings, as well as stability improvements and fixes. This allows for smoother gameplay at up to 60 frames per second and increased resolution.
In addition, Fallout 4 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will receive a free update with stability improvements, login and quest fixes. PC players will also receive a free update that adds widescreen and ultra-widescreen support, along with fixes to the Creation Kit and various quest updates. Players with PC versions of Fallout 4 on Steam, the Microsoft Store, and GOG will receive stability, mod, and bug fixes. Furthermore, the game will be available for purchase on the Epic Games Store and will be Steam Deck verified.
The Fallout 4 next-gen update has been highly anticipated by fans of the franchise, and it is unfortunate that PS Plus subscribers are currently facing difficulties in accessing it. Bethesda’s ongoing investigation into the issue gives hope that a resolution will be found, allowing all players to enjoy the enhanced experience on the PlayStation 5.
