Final Fantasy 14 players around the world are facing significant disruptions as the game’s servers come under a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack. Square Enix, the developer of the popular MMORPG, has acknowledged the issue and assured players that they are working on a solution.
The technical difficulties began on March 6, with players experiencing trouble logging in, sending and accessing data, and getting disconnected from the Japanese, North American, European, and Oceania data centers. The DDoS attack has caused frustration among players who are unable to fully enjoy the game.
Square Enix has not yet determined the exact cause of the attack but has initiated an investigation to identify the responsible parties. The developer is also implementing countermeasures to mitigate the impact of the DDoS attack and restore stable gameplay for its dedicated player base.
The timing of the attack is unfortunate, as Final Fantasy 14 recently garnered attention for its upcoming expansion, Dawntrail. Director Naoki Yoshida had announced plans for a graphical update following feedback from fans regarding character models. The update aims to address concerns about the character’s lifeless eyes, as seen in the benchmark trailer for Dawntrail. Yoshida confirmed that the updated Benchmark Tool will be released on May 23 or shortly after.
The DDoS attack comes just a week before the game’s upcoming live letter event, scheduled for May 16. During the event, new jobs and patch note adjustments will be showcased, generating excitement among the player community.
Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail is set to launch on July 2 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, with early access beginning on June 28 for pre-order customers.
Square Enix is dedicated to resolving the server issues and ensuring that players can enjoy the game without disruption. Final Fantasy 14 fans can rest assured that the developer is actively working on a solution to address the DDoS attack and restore normal gameplay as soon as possible.
