Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition Finally Arrives on PC After a Decade, but Only on Microsoft Store
After a decade of waiting, Crystal Dynamics’ Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition has finally arrived on PC. However, there’s a catch. As reported by DSOGaming, the all-encompassing version of the franchise reboot, originally released for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2014, can only be downloaded on PC through the Microsoft Store. This means that platforms like Steam and the Epic Games Store still only have access to the Game of the Year version of the game, which includes add-on content but lacks the visual enhancements.
Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition includes all previously released DLC, such as Tomb of the Lost Adventurer, single-player outfits, and a collection of multiplayer goodies. Additionally, the game features a suite of graphical enhancements, making it the best version of the Tomb Raider reboot available. The description for Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition highlights the cinematic action-adventure that forces Lara Croft to grow from an inexperienced young woman into a hardened survivor. Players must navigate high-octane combat, customize weapons and gear, and overcome dangerous environments to uncover the island’s deadly secret.
It remains unclear why this definitive version of Tomb Raider is exclusively available on the Microsoft Store for PC. The original Tomb Raider reboot launched for PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 in 2013, with the Definitive Edition arriving a year later. However, the Definitive Edition was not made available for PC at that time.
IGN has reached out to Crystal Dynamics for comment on the decision to release Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition solely on the Microsoft Store for PC.
In the meantime, fans of the Tomb Raider series can explore the latest update for Tomb Raider I-III Remastered, although some pinup pictures of Lara have been removed without explanation. Additionally, readers can revisit our review of Tomb Raider’s 2013 refresh, where we praised it as a new beginning for Lara Croft that did justice to one of gaming’s most iconic characters.
Overall, the arrival of Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition on PC is an exciting development for fans of the franchise. While it may be disappointing that the game is only available on the Microsoft Store, players can still enjoy the enhanced visuals and comprehensive content of this long-awaited edition.
